Baahubali Trailer Review - The Huffington Post

WATCH: 'Baahubali - The Beginning' Looks Unlike Anything Else In Indian Cinema

We finally have a clear look at SS Rajamouli's 'Baahubali - The Beginning', whose trailer was released online on Monday. The film is reportedly the most expensive Indian production of all time, with an alleged budget that was estimated last year to be more than Rs 175 crore, and some recent reports claiming that it is now Rs 220 crore.

The film has been made simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu, and is further being dubbed into Hindi, English, Malayalam, and French. The Hindi version is being presented by Karan Johar's company, Dharma Productions. One of two parts, 'Baahubali - The Beginning' stars Rana Daggubati, Prabhas, Anushka Shetty, and Tamannaah.

As mythological epics go, this is definitely the most impressive footage pertaining to that genre that has been seen in India. Reportedly shot on an Arri Alexa XT camera — which has been used in big-budget Hollywood productions such as 'Skyfall' — the trailer, for the most part, looks quite stunning.

It must be said that the scenes that involve CGI-work don't look as seamless as audiences who watch Hollywood blockbusters might be used to. A shot of a charging bull, for example, is clearly identifiable as the work of a talented VFX team. However, that said — especially keeping in mind that 'Baahubali' has still cost less than a fifth of what it have reportedly taken to make, say, 'Avengers: Age Of Ultron' — it is still of a higher standard than anything that has been seen in India.
